DESCRIPTION:
APW - United States Watch Co, Marion, NJ, A.H. Wallis, 19J, 18S, coin silver original HC, cuvette with an engraved name which is not readily legible, white enamel DS dial, transitional style SW-button-set with retained KWKS arbors, fully capped lever escapement, setting button designed to not allow depress of button when case front is closed, frosted and nickel damascene with butterfly style aperture for viewing escapement action, s#19031. An attractive original example of United States Watch Co.'s second finest grade, this watch is from the first run of A.H. Wallis production which is believed to start at serial 19001.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, crown/stem assembly not properly secured by pendant detent screw so can slip out of engagement when winding and setting if the position of the crown on the pendant is not controlled, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good frosted and nickel tone, spot to barrel bridge perimeter below "a" of "Marion," some scattered mild micro-fine scratches, one barrel bridge screw is a replacement with flat head; dial with hl above seconds-register, hl within center section from center toward 1, very faint hl within center section from center toward 11, small flake to lower-right perimeter of seconds-register, very small edge flake at 5, dial segments have been re-glued and a small bits of glue excess is evident to front side at portions of seconds-register seat; excellent hands; case with replacement stem detent screw in rear of pendant which is at a different position than the original and is not threading to an endpoint and not securing crown/stem assembly which can be pulled out, attention recommended to this issue, case shows ample wear, ding to band near 12, some dings to perimeter of rear, few mild dings to perimeter of front which are more evident to inner surface of lids, inner rear lip of case has some marring around mvt case screw position but we do not interpret this as having come from case ever containing any other mvt; tight bow thinned at top, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
